Buying your wedding dress is one of the most exciting steps in planning your big day. But where do you start? With so many questions, it can feel a bit overwhelming. That’s where we come in! At Wedding Belles of Four Oaks, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Here’s everything you need to know about finding the one.
When Should You Start Shopping for a Wedding Dress?
Timing is crucial when it comes to wedding dress shopping. Ideally, you should begin your search 9-12 months before your wedding day. Why so early? Most designer dresses are made to order, which takes around 6-9 months. After that, you’ll need time for fittings and alterations to ensure your gown fits like a glove.
If you’re short on time, don’t worry! At our outlet store The Bridal Outlet Birmingham offers beautiful off-the-rack dresses you can take home the same day. Whether you’re planning a last-minute wedding or just need a quicker solution, we’ve got you covered.
How Much Does A Wedding Dress Cost In 2025?
Let’s talk money. The average UK bride spends between £1,500 and £4,000 on their wedding dress. That said, there’s no right or wrong amount to spend – it’s all about what feels right for you. Remember to factor in extras like alterations and accessories when setting your budget. At our Birmingham Wedding Dress ShopWedding Belles of Four Oaks, we cater to all price points, offering both luxury designer gowns and affordable options in our outlet store. Whatever your budget, we’ll help you find a dress you’ll love.
Who Should You Bring Wedding Dress Shopping?
When it comes to assembling your dress shopping squad, less is often more. Bring 2-3 trusted friends or family members whose opinions you value most. Too many voices can make the decision harder, so focus on people who’ll offer honest but supportive feedback.
Wondering if the mother of the groom should come along? While it’s not traditional, it’s absolutely fine if you’re close and want her to share in the experience. Remember, it’s your day – do what feels right for you!
The Practical Stuff: What to Wear to Your Appointment
Wondering what you should wear to your wedding dress appointment? Here’s how to prepare for a seamless wedding dress shopping experience:
Wear the Right Underwear: Nude, seamless underwear and a strapless bra are your best friends. They’ll work with almost any dress and give you a clearer picture of how each gown will fit.
Avoid Fake Tan: You can wear light makeup, but skip heavy foundation or fake tan to avoid staining the dresses. After all, you’re trying on pristine gowns and you wouldn’t want to try one on that someone else has stained.
Statement sleeves add a whimsical charm that’s perfect for brides wanting to channel vintage romance. Whether you prefer structured and sleek or soft and boho-inspired, we’ll help you find sleeves that make your heart skip a beat.
FAQs About Choosing and Ordering Your Wedding Dress
Let’s dive into some of the most common questions brides ask:
1. Should I Order My Wedding Dress a Size Up? Yes! Wedding dresses tend to run smaller than everyday clothes, and it’s always easier to take a gown in than let it out. Trust your consultant to guide you on sizing based on your measurements and the designer’s fit.
2. How Much Weight Can I Lose and Still Fit in My Wedding Dress? If you’re planning to lose weight before the wedding, it’s best to let your consultant know. Most dresses can handle changes of 1-2 dress sizes. Anything more significant might require additional alterations, so keep your fitter in the loop.
3.Do You Need to Get Your Dress Cleaned Before the Wedding? No – your wedding dress should be immaculate when you collect it. At Wedding Belles of Four Oaks, we steam and check every gown to perfection before you take it home.
What Happens if You’re Shopping Late? Is 3 Months Too Late?
If you’ve left dress shopping to the last minute, don’t panic. While custom-made gowns typically take 6-9 months, you can still find a gorgeous dress with less time. Our outlet store is perfect for this – you can find stunning off-the-rack gowns that don’t compromise on style.
1.Can I Wear Makeup When Trying on Wedding Dresses? A little bit of makeup is fine, but avoid anything heavy and steer clear of fake tan. Dresses are usually light-coloured and delicate, so you don’t want to risk transferring makeup onto them.
2.Should You Buy Accessories at the Same Time? Yes! Trying on veils, jewellery, and shoes while wearing your dress helps you see the full picture. Plus, it saves you the hassle of shopping for accessories separately.
3.How Many Dresses Should You Try On? There’s no magic number, but most brides find their dress within 5-7 tries – and typically on their first visit. Trust your gut – if you feel amazing in a gown, it’s probably the one.

The 80’s were all about big dreams, big hair, and, of course, bold fashion. Now, that unapologetic glamour is sashaying back into the world of bridalwear, and we couldn’t be more excited! From dramatic silhouettes to opulent details, 80s-inspired wedding dresses are perfect for brides who want to make a statement on their big day.
If you’re a bride-to-be looking to capture the essence of this unforgettable decade, here’s what to watch for when embracing this retro-chic vibe.
Dropped Waists: The Elegance of 80’s Bridal
Dropped waists were a hallmark of 80’s wedding dresses, creating an elongated silhouette that feels regal yet romantic. This design works beautifully for brides seeking a vintage-inspired aesthetic with a modern twist. Pair it with a delicate lace bodice or shimmering embellishments for that perfect blend of timelessness and trend.
At Wedding Belles of Four Oaks, we have stunning dropped-waist gowns that bring this classic style right into the 21st century. Why not come and see for yourself? Book your appointment today and let us help you find “the one”!
If you’re dreaming of a dress that celebrates your curves while exuding sophistication, a corset bodice is your answer. Popular in the 80’s and still stealing hearts today, corsets create a cinched waist that flatters almost every body shape. Whether adorned with pearls, crystals, or intricate embroidery, a corset adds a touch of drama that’s simply unforgettable.
Pair it with a flowing skirt for a fairy-tale vibe, or go bold with layers of tulle for a high-fashion edge. Either way, we’ve got you covered with a range of designs that combine 80s inspiration with modern bridal trends.
80’s Bridal Ballgowns: Because Some Dreams Never Go Out of Style
If the 80’s were known for one thing, it was grandeur—and nothing says grand like a ballgown. Picture sweeping skirts, layered fabrics, and just the right amount of sparkle. Whether you’re aiming for a princess moment or a Hollywood-inspired entrance, a ballgown delivers on all fronts.
Modern ballgowns take that 80’s opulence and add a contemporary touch, like softer fabrics and subtler detailing.
Statement Sleeves: Big, Bold, and Beautiful
No 80’s-inspired wedding dress would be complete without the pièce de résistance: statement sleeves. From puffed sleeves to dramatic bishop styles, sleeves were the ultimate way to stand out. Modern designers are reinventing this iconic feature with sheer fabrics, lace overlays, and detachable options, giving you a versatile look for the day.
Statement sleeves add a whimsical charm that’s perfect for brides wanting to channel vintage romance. Whether you prefer structured and sleek or soft and boho-inspired, we’ll help you find sleeves that make your heart skip a beat.
1980’s Inspired Wedding Dresses – Bows: The Ultimate Bridal Accent
Nothing says 80’s elegance quite like a perfectly placed bow. Whether oversized and dramatic or small and delicate, bows add a playful yet sophisticated touch to any wedding dress. In the 80’s, bows adorned everything from shoulders to waists, and today, they’re making a chic comeback. Picture a sleek satin bow cascading down the back of your gown or a dainty bow detail on your bodice for that extra pop of charm. Modern designers are using bows to elevate bridal looks, proving they’re as timeless as they are striking.
80’s-Inspired Wedding Dresses: Bold, Beautiful, and Back in Style – Your 80’s Moment Awaits
The beauty of 80’s-inspired wedding dresses is that they’re not just nostalgic—they’re bold, joyful, and endlessly fun. Whether it’s the charm of a dropped waist, the allure of a corset, the magic of a ballgown, or the drama of statement sleeves, there’s something uniquely special about this trend.
At Wedding Belles of Four Oaks, we love helping brides discover a look that’s as unique as they are.Book your appointment today and step into a world of stunning bridal fashion with a touch of 80s flair. You bring the dreams—we’ll bring the dresses!
Hello, beautiful couples! If you are getting married and are looking for inspiration we are here with the wedding trends for 2026! We’re seeing some dreamy trends emerge that promise to make wedding days more personal, romantic, and unforgettable. From relaxed seating plans to Mediterranean colours, couples this year are focused on creating unique, meaningful experiences for themselves and their guests. So, let’s dive into the top ten wedding trends that are capturing hearts in 2026.

1. 2026 Wedding Trends – Pick a Seat, Not a Side – Embrace Open Seating Plans
Gone are the days of ‘bride’s side’ and ‘groom’s side’ seating. Couples are opting for more inclusive and relaxed seating arrangements, encouraging guests to ‘pick a seat, not a side’. This approach adds a sense of unity to the ceremony, allowing friends and family to come together and enjoy the day as one. Perfect for those wanting a truly family-oriented, friendly vibe on their big day!
2. Mediterranean Colour Palettes – Timeless Yet Vibrant for 2026 Modern Weddings
Inspired by the Mediterranean’s natural beauty, 2026 wedding palettes are rich in warm, earthy tones like terracotta, olive, and sunlit gold, combined with refreshing ocean blues and crisp whites. This colour palette brings a natural yet elegant feel to everything from bridesmaid dresses and bouquets to table settings. These tones suit everything from rustic farm venues to grand manor houses, making it an incredibly versatile choice.
3. Alternative Wedding Cakes – Millefoglie, Crepes, and More
This year, traditional cakes are taking a step back for some creative alternatives. The Italian millefoglie—a layered pastry of delicate puff pastry and cream—has become a popular choice, bringing a beautiful, rustic feel to the dessert table. Italian Wedding Cake Maker Kate from Dolce Lusso Cakes says that Crepe cakes, profiterole towers, and macaron pyramids are also making their mark, giving couples plenty of options to personalise their wedding sweets. If you want a wow factor (and less cake cutting stress), this trend is for you!
4. Personalised Veils – A Beautifully Meaningful Detail
Veils are having their moment, with brides choosing to add personal touches that make them truly unique. Embroidered messages, initials, or meaningful dates are all being delicately stitched onto veils, adding a heartfelt, one-of-a-kind element to your wedding look. Whether it’s your wedding date or a meaningful phrase, a personalised veil is a timeless keepsake you’ll cherish forever.

5. Classic Wedding Portraits – Old Hollywood Glamour
With everything ‘vintage’ making a comeback, classic wedding portraits are back in style. Couples are opting for timeless, black-and-white photographs with a soft, romantic focus, reminiscent of old Hollywood. These classic shots bring an enduring, elegant feel to wedding albums, capturing moments that will look stunning now and forever.
6. Reception Dresses – A Second Look for the Evening – 2026 Wedding Trends For You
Why settle for just one dress when you can have two? Brides are choosing a second outfit to wear for the reception, often opting for a more relaxed, dance-friendly style. Think flowing silhouettes, shorter hemlines, and even a touch of sparkle. This trend allows you to keep the formal elegance for the ceremony and switch to something a little more playful and comfortable for the evening.
Sparkler exits are back and brighter than ever. As the evening comes to a close, guests line up to create a magical pathway of twinkling lights for the newlyweds. It’s the perfect way to capture a final, magical photo of the night, and it leaves a lasting impression. Plus, who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle?
8. Thoughtful Ceremony Programmes – Small Details with Big Meaning
Gone are the simple ceremony programmes; 2026 weddings are all about sharing a bit of the couple’s story. Brides and grooms are using their programmes to tell the story of their relationship, introduce their bridal party, and include notes on traditions or special details. These thoughtful keepsakes help guests feel even more connected to the couple, setting the tone for a heartfelt celebration.

9. Aisle Meadow Florals – Natural, Wild, and Whimsical for 2026 Weddings
Aisles are going wild with lush, meadow-inspired florals that create a whimsical, natural effect. Instead of traditional flower arrangements, couples are choosing loose, garden-inspired blooms that seem to grow organically along the aisle. This unstructured look brings an earthy, boho feel to the ceremony, perfect for both outdoor and indoor settings that crave a touch of nature.
10. Audio Guestbooks – Voices to Cherish Forever
This year, audio guestbooks are a big hit, allowing friends and family to leave voice messages for the newlyweds. With an old-school rotary phone or a discreet recording station, guests can record heartfelt messages, funny memories, or words of wisdom. It’s a lovely, candid way to capture voices and emotions, adding a unique layer of nostalgia to your wedding memories.
Wedding Trends for 2026: The Top 10 Ideas to Inspire Your Big Day
2026 weddings are all about blending timeless elegance with personal touches that feel intimate, fun, and genuinely ‘you’. Whether you’re drawn to the Mediterranean vibes, a dazzling sparkler exit, or a one-of-a-kind audio guestbook, these trends offer endless ways to make your big day truly unforgettable.
Here’s to celebrating love, laughter, and the little details that make it all so special. Happy planning from all of us at Wedding Belles of Four Oaks!
In the ever-evolving world of wedding design, cakes have transcended beyond the simple sweet treat they once were. Today, they are central showpieces that reflect the couple’s style and the overall tone of the celebration. As we approach 2025, the artistry of wedding cakes continues to evolve, blending tradition with innovative trends. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, here are some of the luxury cake styles to watch out for in the upcoming year. I’m Lesley, your luxury Cheshire Wedding Cake Maker, and I have had the privilege of working with some amazing couples across the country to create fine art wedding cakes that celebrate their love story and compliment their wedding aesthetic perfectly. Here are some emerging trends for 2025 and 2026 couples:
A timeless style for 2025 is minimalist elegance. For the modern bride, sleek, unfussy designs are reigning supreme. Think smooth, flawless fondant finishes, with subtle accents such as a single statement sugar flower, a metallic stripe, or an elegant monogram. The charm of these cakes lies in their simplicity, where the attention to detail in craftsmanship and finish becomes the focal point.
Paired with chic colour palettes of white, nude, or soft greys, these cakes offer a modern take on luxury. Expect to see couples choosing monochrome or barely-there hues for understated glamour, giving their cake an air of sophistication that complements the sleek wedding dresses we’re seeing on runways.
2. Textured Masterpieces: From Pleats to Ruffles
2025 is bringing an explosion of texture to wedding cakes. Drawing inspiration from haute couture fashion, many cakes are being designed to mimic the intricate detailing found on luxury wedding gowns. Imagine fondant pleats, sugar ruffles, or hand-piped lace details, echoing the craftsmanship seen in bridal couture.
These textured designs lend a dramatic yet refined flair, especially when paired with subtle metallic or pearlised finishes. Brides who adore intricate detailing on their dresses will love this trend as it seamlessly ties their bridal look into the cake design.
3. Sculptural Artistry: Bold and Bespoke Designs
For those who want to make a bold statement, sculptural cakes are set to be one of 2025’s hottest trends. Couples are opting for cakes that are more than just dessert—they’re works of art. This might mean non-traditional, asymmetrical tiers, cakes inspired by architectural designs, or cakes that incorporate unconventional shapes and angles.
These creations often feature innovative techniques such as isomalt glass accents, 3D sugar sculptures, or intricate hand-carved detailing. Paired with muted or neutral tones, the structural design takes centre stage, resulting in a showstopping piece for the reception.
4. Hand-Painted Details: A Canvas of Love
Hand-painted cakes continue to captivate couples looking for something utterly unique. For 2025, watercolour effects, floral motifs, and even portraits will be seen adorning the tiers of luxury wedding cakes. These edible works of art transform cakes into a personalised masterpiece that can tell the couple’s story or mirror the wedding’s theme.
The beauty of this trend is its versatility. Whether you want soft, romantic pastels or bold, abstract brush strokes, a hand-painted cake offers endless possibilities. It is ideal for artistic couples who want to bring a creative, personalised touch to their special day.
As eco-consciousness grows, sustainability is becoming a key theme for 2025 weddings. Couples are looking for cakes that not only look beautiful but also reflect their values. This has led to an increase in demand for sustainable cake designs that use organic, locally sourced ingredients and natural decorative elements like fresh flowers, fruit, and herbs.
Expect to see cakes adorned with edible pressed flowers, hand-picked herbs, or even entire cakes covered in delicate foliage to create a natural, rustic look. These cakes embody a back-to-nature aesthetic, perfect for outdoor or bohemian-style weddings. Brides who favour romantic, ethereal wedding dresses will find this cake style a perfect match.
6. Metallic Accents: A Touch of Glamour
Metallics are continuing their rise in popularity, adding a luxurious, modern touch to wedding cakes in 2025. Gold, silver, rose gold, and even copper accents are being used in innovative ways, whether through gilded edges, metallic leaf accents, or shimmering sugar details.
Cakes featuring metallic elements can be both bold and subtle, depending on the couple’s preference. Gold leaf can be brushed onto the cake in large, bold patches for a striking effect, or used delicately to add a subtle shimmer. Either way, these cakes exude luxury and provide that extra touch of opulence, perfect for an elegant evening reception.
7. Botanical & Floral Overload: Inspired by Nature
While flowers have always been a staple in wedding cake design, 2025 sees a significant shift towards over-the-top, statement florals. From oversized sugar blooms to cascading florals down multi-tiered cakes, flowers are no longer just a finishing touch—they are the main event.
This trend draws heavily on nature, with cakes adorned in roses, peonies, or wildflowers, either crafted from sugar or using fresh, organic flowers. Vibrant colours are being used to add a bold pop to more neutral cake palettes, creating a perfect blend of romance and luxury.
While design is essential, the flavours of wedding cakes are equally becoming a point of luxury. 2025 is all about indulgent flavours that surprise and delight guests. Rich, bold flavours such as salted caramel, hazelnut praline, or lemon and elderflower are making a comeback, along with more adventurous choices like matcha or spiced chai. You can check out my wedding cake menu here.
Brides are opting for multi-tiered cakes that offer different flavours on each tier, catering to a variety of guest preferences. Expect flavours that harmonise with the season and the overall theme of the wedding, ensuring that the cake not only looks good but tastes divine.

The Best Wedding Dresses for the Introverted Bride – Minimalist Elegance
Introverted brides often appreciate simplicity and clean lines. A minimalist wedding dress, free from excessive embellishments and loud details, can be the perfect choice. Look for dresses made from high-quality fabrics like silk or mikado, which offer a luxurious feel without overwhelming the wearer. A simple sheath dress or a column gown can be incredibly elegant while still allowing the bride to feel like herself. We love the Sky by Stella York for its minimalist elegance perfect for the bride that is looking for something demure but stunning…
Soft, Flowing Silhouettes For A Demure Look
A-line dresses or soft ball gowns with flowing skirts are ideal for brides who want a bit of traditional flair without feeling too “out there.” These silhouettes create a beautiful, timeless look that feels romantic yet refined. Chiffon and tulle are great fabric choices for these styles, as they add movement and grace to the dress without adding too much volume. The Anna by Dama Couture is a great example of this…
Subtle Lace Details – Perfect For The Introverted Bride
Lace is a classic choice for wedding dresses, but for the introverted bride, less is often more. Opt for dresses with subtle lace accents, such as lace sleeves, an illusion neckline, or delicate lace appliqués on the bodice. These details add a touch of romance and femininity without being too bold. Dresses with lace backs or lace-covered buttons can also offer a beautiful surprise detail that doesn’t scream for attention. The Sorell by Stella York is a gorgeous example of this…
Introverted Brides Love Sleeved Gowns
For many introverted brides, the idea of showing a lot of skin can be daunting. A sleeved gown provides coverage while still being incredibly stylish. Long, sheer sleeves with delicate embroidery or lace can add an elegant touch, while cap sleeves or three-quarter sleeves offer a more understated option. Sleeved gowns also have the added benefit of being versatile for weddings in cooler weather. This Bonaire Plus Size Elegance Gown is absolutely stunning from Essense Of Australia…
A tea-length dress, which typically falls between the knee and the ankle, is a great option for the introverted bride who wants something unique but not too extravagant. This length is both practical and stylish, offering a vintage-inspired look that feels special yet approachable. Tea-length dresses are perfect for brides who are planning a more intimate or casual wedding.
High Necklines Are Perfect For Introverted Brides
High necklines provide a sophisticated and modest look that is perfect for introverted brides who prefer more coverage. A high-neck dress can be both modern and classic, depending on the design. Whether it’s a mock neck, halter, or a full high collar, this style draws attention to the bride’s face without being overly revealing. We love the neckline on the Maxwell by Martina Liana…
Soft Colour Tones Are Subtle Statements For Introverted Brides
While white and ivory are traditional, soft colour tones like blush, champagne, or light grey can offer a subtle twist for the introverted bride who wants something a little different. These hues still feel bridal but offer a gentle contrast to the more conventional shades, allowing the bride to stand out in a way that feels true to her personality. The Faro by Sottero & Midgely is a gorgeous example of this which is perfect for the introverted bride…
The Best Wedding Dresses for the Introverted Bride
The key to choosing the perfect wedding dress as an introverted bride is to prioritise comfort and personal style over trends or external expectations. Whether you opt for a minimalist gown, a softly flowing silhouette, or a dress with subtle lace details, the most important thing is that you feel like yourself. Your wedding day is a celebration of your love and commitment, and your dress should reflect your unique personality in a way that makes you feel confident and beautiful.

Name a more timeless pairing than black and white? I’ll wait…
The creative team chose this classic monochrome palette as the theme for their editorial, resulting in a clean, modern and super stylish wedding inspiration piece. Choosing such a simple colour palette ensured it didn’t fight with the backdrop of such a beautiful, historic venue. In fact, I’d go so far as to say they got it pretty spot on actually! Swinfen Hall is a magnificent Grade II* listed 18th-century manor house in the Midlands, and the perfect backdrop to this contemporary styled shoot.
Notes from the Planner
Amelia says…
Swinfen Hall was the perfect location for our black and white themed shoot. The beautiful architectural details of the venue were complemented by the simplicity of the styling. Everything about our shoot was based around luxury, from two stunning gowns and the dinner tuxedo, to the incredible floral arrangements. Not only did we shoot inside Swinfen Hall, but we also took advantage of the stunning grounds surrounding this gorgeous manor house! This venue is situated on 100 acres of rolling parkland including a 45-acre deer park, giving couples endless backdrop opportunities for romantic couple shots.
As the planner, I worked with Etiquette Events to bring together a monochrome-themed styled shoot, in keeping with a wedding setting. We looked into every detail from small black bunny tails on the back of the chairs, to a stunning white rose archway.
To capture all the elements of this fantastic shoot was Creative Depiction Studios, a Gloucestershire based photography/videography duo. Their approach is non-obtrusive and they have a candid style to capture couples ‘in the moment’ with a ‘fly on the wall’ approach. They were the perfect addition to our styled shoot at Swinfen Hall.
We used a bold monochrome colour palette inspired by the latest wedding trend, incorporating this into every element of the shoot. This colour palette allowed us to demonstrate a luxury, bold and powerful shoot.
The location was perfect, and once combined with high fashion gowns, gorgeous styling and elegant stationery, the tone of the shoot was nothing less than luxury. We showcased two beautiful gowns to represent both a day look and an evening cocktail look, provided by Wedding Belles of Four Oaks and designed by Abella Bridal and Maggie Sottero Designs, accompanied with the elegant pearl accessories. The groom was smart in a classic, couture, Prestige Kemberton black tuxedo provided by Sanders Hirewear. The bride’s makeup was done by the very talented and award winning MUA Steph from SJM Beauty, keeping the look timeless and elegant. The hair was styled by Nichola from Beau Bella Hair Designs, creating a soft Hollywood wave which looked stylish and sophisticated.
The décor and styling was carried out by the incredible Etiquette Events. I really wanted to showcase the outdoor area at Swinfen Hall so we therefore set up a small intimate table for eight outside on the lawn for the wedding breakfast. Etiquette played with different table linens and fabrics, black rimmed charger plates, crystal cut glasses and silver cutlery to really enable us to achieve a slick, luxury set up.
For our ceremony set up we hired lime washed Chiavari chairs from Event Furniture Hire which were decorated with black chair drapery, incorporating the dark colour in a subtle way. Down the aisle we used a white floor runner surrounded by black rimmed cubed lanterns. Despite the colours being black and white, the candles enhanced the romantic scenery. At the end of the aisle, we used a white rose archway for our models to stand in front of, creating a stunning backdrop. For the outside of the venue Pretty Fly Co created a broken arch with black balloons, which showcased a modern style on a historical building.
Louisa from Louisa May Flowers curated breathtaking florals for the buttonhole, bouquet and table centerpieces. Louisa incorporated roses, spray roses, stocks, ranunculus, hydrangeas, astilbes, lisianthus, lysimachia, ruscuss, shaker grass, birch and pittosporum into the arrangements to keep with the luxury theme. The flower brief was to create florals which were elegant yet eye catching, but that also complemented the style of the venue.
Our shoot showcases a very different colour palette, to which some couples wouldn’t even consider for their wedding day. It demonstrates that you don’t always have to go for bright or pastel colours, but sometimes bold colours can really enhance and showcase a luxury wedding set up.

What is Mental Health Awareness Month?
First off, what is Mental Health Awareness Month? While we think you should prioritize your mental health every month of the year, May is when it is brought front and center to the world!
Established in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month was created to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness around the world – as well as celebrate the efforts millions of people put into their mental well-being!
At Maggie, Mental Health Awareness Month is one of our favorite months of the year. We are with our brides every step in their wedding journey and have experienced the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows which was why we are so excited to promote this incredible National Holiday.

Mental Health Awareness Month Tips: Practice Mindfulness
PC: Jared Rice
Alright, all together now: take a deep breath in, and then a deep breath out. Congrats! You’re one step closer to practicing mindfulness. Mastering mindfulness takes a little bit more than that though.
Practicing mindfulness is like any other exercise – it takes time to master. However, by incorporating simple mindfulness techniques into your every day, you can begin to reduce your stress and increase your overall happiness!
On your journey to practicing mindfulness, make sure to focus on the present at any moment (although we know how hard that is to do during wedding planning!). You can easily do this through mindfulness meditation by anchoring your breath and focusing all of your attention on your thoughts and feelings.
To start your mindfulness journey this Mental Health Awareness Month, do the following:
Start small by taking 5 minutes out of your day to dedicate to yourself. You can do this anywhere! The shower, a park, your bedroom… If it acts as a “sacred space” you’re moving in the right direction.
Focus on your breath. Don’t worry, there’s no need to “change” or “control” your breath. Simply feel the sensation and stay present in the moment.
Don’t worry about your mind wandering! This is completely normal. Make it your aim to bring your attention back to your breathing in a positive way. Complete this as many times as necessary.
Lose all expectations of being a “master at mindfulness.” If you’re being present and allowing your mind the opportunity to quiet, you’re already mastering mindfulness.
Disconnect from all social devices during this special time. Allow yourself to focus on you and only you, rather than the world around you!
Mental Health Tips: Find Ways to Relieve Stress
Zander by Sottero And Midgley
PC: Ashley Rae Photography
Stress relief can come in many different forms for many different people, so take the time to find yours!
Like we said before, practicing mindfulness is a great way to get started. However, that may not be your thing, so instead consider the following:
Enroll in therapy! There’s no shame in admitting that life can get overwhelming and sometimes we need someone to talk to. And who knows, maybe you’ll make a habit out of it.
Start exercising (or try something new in your physical routine)! To quote Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!” Not only do they make you happy though, they also help reduce stress and anxiety.
Get in touch with your creative side! Studies have shown that creativity can boost self-awareness and relieve stress! Additionally, by indulging in your creative side, you will manage negative emotions and help your mindfulness.
Get outside! Getting outside at least an hour a week will help you in a ton of ways and you should absolutely take advantage of it leading up to your wedding. Getting outside can help increase your productivity, regulate sleep, ease depression and anxiety, and lower stress (so fun, right?!).
Mental Health Awareness Month Tips: Reconnect with Your Partner and Loved Ones
PC: Sydney Bliss Photography

Mental Health Practices Before The Big Day: Keep A Journal
PC: Kelly Sikkema
Remember that angsty diary you used to keep as a teenager? The one where you wrote down all your heartbreak, school struggles, and friend drama? Well, it’s time to dust off your old journal again and get back to writing.
Writing in a journal, especially while you’re wedding planning, is a helpful tool in managing your mental health and finding a healthy way to express any overwhelming or frustrating emotions you may have. Journaling can help you:
Manage anxiety and reduce stress.
Help organize your anxious thoughts, prioritize your fears and concerns, and give yourself an opportunity to engage in positive self-talk.
Improve your mindfulness and positive habits regarding stress and anxiety.
Mental Health Awareness Month Tips: Practice a Healthy Lifestyle
PC: Eneko Urunaela
Your mental health goes hand in hand with your physical health, so you might as well work on both! Whether it’s working out or improving your healthy eating habits, you are bound to feel better not only physically, but mentally by engaging in both.
Food, particularly, can have a big impact on your mental health Consider adding these foods to your pre-wedding diet to help improve your physical health and give you a leg up on your mental health while wedding planning:
Carrots: These amazing veggies are filled with beta-carotene (a powerful antioxidant). Not only will a healthy helping of carrots help maintain healthy skin, but they’ve also been linked to improving mental health!
Bananas: Whether you’re eating it directly out of the peel or adding it to your morning smoothie, bananas are great fruits to add to your pre-wedding day diet. This potassium heavy fruit is not only good for your physical health, but they’re also good brain food and will help regulate moods.
Eggs: Whether you’re frying them, boiling them, or scrambling them, eggs are an excellent mental-health food. Eggs are packed with a ton of important vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that help with stress levels, as well as choline; a nutrient that has been proven to help protect against stress.
Mental Health Practices For Brides: Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

While you’re planning for your wedding, you might feel it’s you against the world, however that couldn’t be less true! Make sure to reach out to the people you love to ask for some extra wedding planning help. Whether it’s having them go wedding cake tasting with you, or labeling all your invites, your loved ones will be more than happy to help you get ready for the big day.
Additionally, if you’re able to, we can’t recommend hiring a wedding planner enough. Wedding planners do more than just decorate and direct you and your guests! They also develop design elements, manage wedding finances, set up your wedding website, send off invitations, help manage guests, and in some cases, initiate family mediations.
Mental Health Tips For Brides: Keep Yourself Organized
PC: Marissa Grootes
Last, but certainly not least: keep yourself organized. An organized mind is a happy mind, and with how much work goes into your big day, you’ll certainly want to keep yourself that way. Keeping yourself organized will not only help you find calm in a stressful situation, but it also helps you gain control over your environment, help your mood, increase your attention span, and find inspiration!
Ways to organize yourself for wedding planning:
Create a separate email for the wedding admin to keep everything in one place.
Make a step-by-step wedding calendar or planner to help keep all your due dates organized.
Set your wedding budget! This will keep your purchases organized, within budget, and stress-free.
Create a wedding website. This is an easy way to stay organized and keep guests (and yourself) in the loop.
Keep yourself organized while wedding dress shopping as well by reading our Blog!

A reblog froma collaborative styled shoot we were involved with. Article written by Clare Loughead via Chouxlicious
The day of the shoot dawned crisp and clear, perfect conditions for what was to become a relaxed, fun filled day deep in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside. After a few muddy wrong turns along the way I arrived at Woodcock Lodge Farmand was greeted with the sight of a majestic tepee; supplied by Katachiefs, a ‘Tipi Hire Event Companybased in Market Drayton’. This stood proudly in the Farm’s foreground, surrounded by stunning, vivid green rolling hills.
There was a hive of activity within the tepee, the shoot’s organiser Nicola Peake greeted me warmly with her hands full of delicious looking scones and brownies, and I spotted behind her a table simply groaning with goodies. Nicola had provided a feast, artfully arranging the ornate afternoon tea stands she provides for hire with homemade delectable baked goodies. She declared this “The Dessert Table”.
This was indeed a tremendous example of the decadent food packages she dreams up in her Bridgnorth kitchen, supplying to people in and around Bridgnorth in her distinctive company car; a VW Beetle emblazoned with her company name Chouxlicious. Nicola explained that the purpose of the Autumn Style Shoot was to bring together local businesses to showcase themselves and prove that in today’s world an intimate wedding can be an amazing experience. The local businesses involved in the shoot truly impressed me with their professionalism, their ability to adapt to the current restrictions as well as their determination to thrive, they were full of ideas and plans for the future and it was a pleasure to witness such colossal meeting of arty minds under one (very high tepee-style) roof .
I was surprised to hear how many of these businesses were brand new companies starting up within the last few months; believe me, this was certainly not evident in the quality of their work. Nicola started her business in March 2020 and despite the restrictions she has gone from strength to strength and is currently hard at work organising wedding fayres across Shropshire, Cheshire, Worcester, Staffordshire, and the West Midlands.
In the midst of the dessert table, I spotted a wonderous centre piece, the wedding cake. A majestic multi—tiered masterpiece, decorated with eye catching fresh seasonal fruit and set proudly on top of a wooden wedge of natural tree stump. On top of this mouth-watering masterpiece was piled an avalanche of bright, perfectly crafted macarons which, along with the wedding cake, were painstakingly baked and decorated by George from The Shropshire Macaron Company. George, with hair rivalling the very brightest of copper-hued autumnal leaves, chatted to me about his company as he bustled away perfecting his culinary masterpiece.
Based in Telford, George was exactly the type of local supplier that Nicola Peake was keen to showcase in her Autumn Style Shoot. George started up his company in August 2020 selling his divine creations in local farm shops, taking orders online and delivering them locally. His obvious skill was there for all to taste as we devoured his macarons as soon as Nicola declared the photographs of the food were completed and we could eat. What a treat! They were divine, they knocked spots off the macarons I’d had in the past and it was obvious why his business was going from strength to strength.
There was one question I was desperate to ask him, “George, why haven’t I seen you on Bake-Off?” he replied with a wry smile that he had in fact applied and made it through the rounds until he got knocked out in the penultimate round. Well, Bake-Off’s loss was our gain and George’s mouth-watering macarons certainly lived up to his online declaration that his creations are, “Parisian patisserie brought to the Shropshire hills”, we couldn’t agree more.
The main focus within the tepee interior was a long, central trestle table decorated for a dreamy Autumnal wedding. With rustic tableware, ornate gold cutlery and sparkling crystal glasses provided by Tipplesset up beautifully for just 8 guests, this emphasised how wonderfully stylish todays micro-wedding can be. The beautiful table-top bouquets in oranges, reds and greens provided by Will Simmons at Blooms at Bridgnorth, were a perfect reflection of Woodcock Lodge Farm’s stunning surroundings. And the floral theme was mirrored in the intricately decorated teacups and saucers provided by Nicola Peake. The food laid out on the table consisted of plates bursting with the best examples of her finest afternoon tea package; delicious finger sandwiches, meringues filled with fresh seasonal fruit and scones accompanied of course, with fruity preserve and thick, fresh cream, as well as a spicier offering from Samosa Stop. I can imagine the samosas would be quickly devoured, being a fine accompaniment to: well, any alcoholic beverage! These plates were scattered generously throughout the table with the intention that each guest can load their plates with as much or as little as they wish. If you’re anything like me; at a wedding I struggle with a gargantuan three course meal, I like to leave a little (a lot) of room for a tipple or ten. Providing the alcohol for this particular ‘wedding’ was Nicole from Bottle Top Bar. Nicole was a bundle of fun and got well and truly stuck into the various goings on of the event. She reminded me of ‘that’ girl at school that was terribly cheeky to peers and teachers alike, and always walked a fine line between ‘good girl and naughty girl’, but she’s pure of heart and you couldn’t help but get drawn to her like a magnet! Nicole chattered away and revealed hers was a fledgling business but was doing extremely well; mainly due to the fact she’s full to bursting with fantastic ideas and can roll with the times. Nicole’s mobile bar is rustic looking which fitted neatly with the theme of the wedding shoot. She had plenty of booze on show behind the bar in the main tent, and also provided a fun prosecco station outside with signs advertising ‘Pimp your Prosecco’, where at a wedding, the guests would have great fun helping themselves to prosecco, and selecting pre-prepared, delicious berries of their choice to top their glass. Nicole provided the glasses and a deluxe range of fruit to pop in the drinks and explained the Bride&Groom could provide their own prosecco or leave that to Nicole. I love the fact that Nicole’s whole ethos is chilled and innovative, she explained that her company can provide a selection of drinks that would suit EVERY budget. And Nicole really means that. I can tell when she talks that she has an understanding of how to cater for those that have a tight budget, she’s clear and concise about pricing and has adapted to the ever-changing guidelines that currently restrict our freedom. You can book Bottle Top Bar to come to your home or garden, Nicole sets up a 3-foot bar, decorates it and stocks it with the beverages of your choice. Depending on whether you’re having a big Birthday, a hen or stag party or just a plain old garden party for your nearest and dearest, Nicole can modify the bar to suit every occasion. I particularly adore Nicole’s brainchild-the ‘Covid Package’, she delivers a package of your choice of alcohol, glasses, fruit etc all in a bundle directly to your garden. There will be no physical handover, Nicole will pick the empties up when the party has disbanded, hoping I’m sure, that everything’s been packed back up ready for her to safely and quickly take away. Nicole enjoys greatly coming up with a ‘cocktail of the week’ and you’ll find this on her website with clear instructions on how to make it. There was a ‘real-life’ example in a giant glass vessel on the bar-top with the name of the cocktail written in chalk on a blackboard, retro-style! Contrasting dramatically with the chalky scribblings, on the main table each place was set with a stunningly intricate menu, gold leaf text on creamy card provided by Bridgnorth based invitation printing service, Dotty About Paper. Check out their website for awe-inspiring ideas like “letters to Santa writing kits” and my favourite-individualised “allergy labels for kids”. What a fabulous idea for use at school or nursery when they’re that bit too little to speak for themselves. Sitting along-side Dotty About Paper’s menu and matching beautifully were gorgeous ‘Mr&Mrs’ edible party favours, simply divine biscuits painstakingly hand crafted with elaborate cream and green flowers provided by Alice at The Biscuit Baking Company. Alice the founder of The Biscuit Baking Company which is based in Bridgnorth, can also boast of accomplishing the mean feat of running a thriving business in today’s current climate. Alices’s delectable biscuits, cupcakes and towering celebration cakes are a sight to behold, and Alice can create gorgeous packages of inscribed sweet delights to cater for ANY occasion; from 90th Birthdays to Sweet 16, to name but a few! I simply adore ‘The Naughty Elf’ personalised Christmas Package which would be delivered straight to your door. These contain a cheeky note addressed to your child from ‘The Naughty Elf’, scrumptious biscuits piped meticulously with personal messages which are cleverly designed to get your little one into the Christmas spirit-what a delightful idea.
I head over to some very inviting looking sofas situated in front of a transparent panel built into the far wall of the tepee, revealing the glory of the stunning scenery of Shropshire. The sun was showing its burnt orange face and I basked in its warmth noticing how beautifully its colours were reflected in the enormous flower displays placed on the coffee table in front of me, it was truly a beautiful sight, and the scent was divine. Peering beyond the blooms could be seen Stephanie Morgan, a freelance make-up artist hard at work making up the serene-looking face of model Shannon McNally. Stephanie’s skills were plain for all to see as she transformed Shannon into a blushing bride, and it became blatantly obvious how she had won many awards in her field. Shannon’s hair was styled into perfectly tousled curls by Charlotte Swash Of Rural Roots Hair, who is based In Stottesdon, and can proudly say she came 3rd in the UK at the ‘Bridal Hair Show 2020’, a fantastic achievement. Charlotte has a passion for styling ‘up-do’s’, and she did a spectacular job on the bride’s hair.
Flitting around the tepee and face disguised by an impressive looking professional camera was local girl, Christina-Clare of Christina-Clare Photography. She darted here, there and everywhere and her unbridled energy was extremely impressive considering she’s a busy Mum with a top-class photography company to run! Christina-Clare, “specialises in working with independent businesses, online sellers and local organisations…and will make your product stand out from the crowd”. The photographs of the Autumn Rustic Photoshoot are stunning, Christina-Clare captured the essence of the day beautifully. And it’s easy to see why she’s Nicola Peake’s photographer of choice. They work closely together, as Christina-Clare captures Nicola’s scrumptious looking food packages, bespoke cheese boards, and vintage wedding supplies so beautifully and with a totally natural originality , check her work out at Chouxlicious.com.
There was a vacuum-type hum in the air barely noticeable until my eye was drawn to the most beautiful gold balloon I’ve ever seen, it looked like a super-sized Christmas bauble, this was one part of an immense balloon arch, the creation of George from Feather and Fox. Based in Bridgnorth Georg(ina)’s impressive creative events company offers a host of frivolously fun party packages that promise to give her clients an experience they will never forget. Feather and Fox provide “bespoke luxury photo booth packages and jaw dropping sequin shimmer backdrop displays” that have proved to be in high demand for weddings big and small. George also provides “copper pipe backdrop, neon signs and balloon instillations”. Since George started her company two and a half years ago she has built up an impressive client base and is well known in and around Bridgnorth for her innovative ideas such as ‘The Naughty Elf’ tied to a helium balloon. I must admit my name is down for two this Christmas; my niece and nephew would ADORE this, and I can only imagine their delighted little upturned faces, delirious with excitement, as the Naughty Elf zooms wildly around the room on his gold balloon.
There’s a noticeable change of atmosphere as a very pretty blonde sweeps into the tent trailing metres of white tulle and lace; swoops Harley the ‘Groom’ up on her way, ushering him chirpily over to the sofas where myself and Shannon the ‘Bride’ are sitting. It’s Mel from Wedding Belles of Four Oaks. Mel and her business partner Claire run a thriving Wedding Dress Boutique in Sutton Coldfield, West-Midlands. The ladies and their team have won a plethora of awards including the highest possible accolade- winner of The Regional Wedding Industry Awards 2019&2020 and have become NationalFinalists 2019&2020. Wedding Belles is not just a business to Mel and Claire, they genuinely adore what they do and care highly about providing a “personalised and supportive service” offering “advice and styling” tips unique to each and every bride. Their kind-hearted, reassuring, and helpful approach entails all their clients walk away knowing they have just procured the dress of their dreams and feel secure in the knowledge that they look utterly sensational in it. Both Nicola Peake and myself can affirm to this, both of us having had the benefit of Mel and Claire’s unparalleled expertise; Nicola, finding the wedding dress of her dreams, and myself, an exquisite floor-length, made to measure Bridesmaid dress. Wedding Belles offers something tailored to suit every bride, “From vintage wedding dresses to modern styles, fitted and elegant to princess fairy tale gowns”, they also have an impressive range of bridesmaids dresses, veils, tiara’s and a whole range of other accessories! Brides flock to Wedding Belles from far and wide, and if you’re planning a wedding, look no further than Wedding Belles ofFour Oaks’ awesome website, full to bursting with top tips and advice for the big day and the planning that will lead up to it. Mel provided two beautiful wedding dresses, both in fitting with the Autumnal season, and matching beautifully with the groom’s ‘Peaky Blinders’ type suit provided by Duncan James.
Mel sweetly ushered everyone out of the tepee so the Bride and Groom models; real-life couple, Shannon and Harley, could change into their finery for the upcoming main photoshoot. There was a hint of excitement in the air as a divine looking snow-white gelding named ‘Cassie’ was led proudly out of her stable by farmer Anthea Digwood. Anthea declared this was Cassie’s “debut performance for equine modelling”, not that you could tell; she behaved fabulously (apart from trying to eat the bouquet, but who could blame her…they did look rather scrumptious). Anthea was excited to showcase Cassie and her farm, explaining that her family-run farm was branching out and, “catering for weddings, special occasions and corporate events”. I must admit that the farm was glorious; with a simply stunning backdrop, showcasing British countryside at its absolute best. Whilst we were all admiring Cassie and her dreamy equine beauty, a delightful, open-top vintage car came driving towards us with a smiling besuited man behind the wheel. Next to him sat his wife waving delightedly at our little ensemble. The wedding car provided by Stylishly Classic Wedding Carswas sparkling, cream-coloured and adorned with the classic wedding ribbons synonymous with a quintessential English wedding. Wayne Leonard, the videographer from Shropshire Wedding Video appeared as if by magic, utterly delighted by this sight-as we all were, and looking forward to capturing the Bride&Groom when they appeared dressed in their finery. Spotted overhead, and capturing every detail hovered a drone, supplied by Drone Rangers Of Virtual Shropshire . You can book this drone to capture your big day or special events, it promises to provide a rare and utterly unique view from beginning to end.
Whilst the Bride&Groom did their thing and were captured beautifully, posing in the Stylishly Classic wedding car by Christina-Clare and Shropshire Wedding Video there was frantic activity going on the other side of the tepee. I meandered around, notebook in hand and stumbled surprisingly upon a magnificent looking giant wooden hexagon erected stolidly in the field, this was lovingly hand-crafted by local carpenter Ade of Little Wooden Workshop . Nicola Peake was balanced precariously on a hay-bale attempting to affix a bundle of foot-long, feathery reeds onto the top corner of the hexagon. George from Feather and Fox joined her grasping a wonderous green and cream coloured balloon arch. I sat on one of the conveniently situated hay bales that, along with cable drum tables, were placed strategically in front of the wooden hexagon and Bottle Top Bar’s ‘Pimp Your Prosecco’ stand for tired guests to sit and rest their weary legs in order to enjoy their ‘pimped up’ prosecco. These were provided by Tom and Sarah at West Croft Farm in Lower Penn. Tom and Sarah are entrant farmers and have set up a new business venture supplying, “bales and tables for weddings and events, to add that touch of rustic charm”. They will deliver and collect their ‘rustic furniture’ taking some of the stress away from the happy couple on their monumental day.
When Nicola had perfected the decoration of her ginormous wooden hexagon which was no mean feat, she hollered at everyone nearby to come and help fill the prosecco glasses that were situated on her prosecco wall. Nicola explained that she had designed this herself and was extremely popular. Find this, and the hexagonal backdrop to hire on her website, Chouxlicious Wedding Catering And Props.
And so, the day comes to a close, we’ve all bonded over fake prosecco, our bellies are full of sugary delights, and we say our goodbye’s. A massive well done to Nicola Peake of Pretty PeakeWedding Fayres. To organise and execute such a wonderfully smooth day was a monumental task and you did it with ease! The photographs and video footage reveal the absolute best of what Shropshire and surrounding areas have to offer in regard to ‘Weddings of the Future’. It can be done; it is being done and with a little help from these smart and innovative local businesses you could have the wedding of your dreams.
